The Imhotep Labyrinth is a game specially developed for blind people, but at the same time can also be played by persons who have normal or impaired vision. This enables a level of strategic interaction between the two groups which, under normal circumstances would not be possible. In reality, the game can really be played by everybody.

Arnt Holte, President World Blind Union:

“There are approximately 285 million people world-wide, who are either blind or who’s vision is severely impaired. This game can be easily played by both the blind and people who can see. The only difference is that one player uses his fingers and the other his eyes. For me, this game reminds me of a form of Chess, with which I am familiar. You have to think more strategically than for instance, when playing “ladder games“ or games involving dice where the roll of the die dictates the course of a game.”

Christian Bundgaard, Responsible for projects of the Danish Blind Society:

“Here we have a situation in which the players are on equal terms. Obviously, a great deal of thought has gone into the idea of how to achieve this manner of equality, this idea in itself being highly commendable. The game has very nearly achieved a sense of equal footing between players that can and those that cannot see!”

Arnt Holte, President World Blind Union:

“I think that a blind person and a person that can see have a greater understanding for each other if the circumstances under which they meet are similar. It is one thing to sit and play a game, where the initial conditions are the same for all of the players. But games also have a “socialising effect“, whereby at the end of the game, the players discuss the course of the game and which player could have done what differently. Those are the moments when you get to know each other better and gain a better understanding of the other persons situation.”

Christian Bundgaard, Responsible for projects of the Danish Blind Society:

“ It’s a pretty cool idea, the notion that blind people and those that can see are able to play this game together; and I think that it can be done.”

The Imhotep Labyrinth is a board game made up of high quality materials. It consists of a playing field with depressions for 64 game stones, 4 gaming figures that can be attached to the gaming stones, a specially designed die and 36 playing cards.
